Exfoliate and nourish your skin with this all-natural sugar scrub recipe

Let’s face it: sugar scrubs are nothing new. They’ve been around for years, and it seems like everyone loves them. After all, who can resist the simple pleasure of exfoliating with a sugar scrub? It was actually the very first DIY recipe I ever tried, and it’s amazing to see how this timeless classic has evolved.

Why Sugar Scrubs Have Stood the Test of Time

So why has the sugar scrub remained a staple in skincare routines? It’s because of its incredible benefits. Sugar scrubs exfoliate the skin, removing dead cells and leaving your skin looking fresh and radiant. Plus, they’re versatile and customizable. While traditional sugar scrubs might have been just a mix of sugar and oil, today’s recipes can include a variety of natural ingredients to enhance their effectiveness.

My Favorite DIY Sugar Scrub Recipe

Although you can easily find sugar scrubs at the store, I prefer to make my own. There’s something special about blending your own ingredients and tailoring the scrub to your skin’s needs. Here’s a recipe I love to whip up whenever I need a good exfoliation:

*** This should yield approximately a 4-ounce batch. ***

Ingredients:

Why I Don’t Use Preservatives

  • Since this scrub is completely oil-based and doesn’t contain any water, you don’t need a preservative. Water is what introduces the risk of bacterial growth, so as long as you’re careful not to get water into your jar (I always use a spatula to scoop it out), you’re good to go. Plus, you get to keep things 100% natural!

  • Store in a dry place.

Instructions:

  1. Melt the kokum butter, hemp oil, Emulsifying Wax, and candelilla wax in a double boiler over low heat until fully melted and well combined.

  2. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly, but don’t let it solidify.

  3. Add vitamin E and essential oils, stirring well to incorporate.

  4. Gradually add the sugar, stirring until it’s fully mixed into the butter and oil blend.

  5. Pour the mixture into a clean jar and let it cool and set at room temperature.

Tips for Use:

  • Apply to damp skin and gently scrub in circular motions.

  • Rinse with warm water for smooth, glowing skin.

  • Store in a dry place and use a spatula to avoid getting water into the jar.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

This scrub is a luxurious twist on a classic. With the addition of kokum butter and hemp oil, it’s not only effective but also incredibly nourishing. Candelilla wax gives it a beautiful, creamy texture that feels fantastic on your skin.

Give this DIY sugar scrub a try and experience the joy of crafting your own skincare products. It’s a simple yet satisfying way to pamper yourself while enjoying all the benefits of a classic exfoliant.

Happy scrubbing!
